subtitled: The Department of War

The prezzident of amerika recently announced that the Department of Defense will be called the Department of War from now on. It’s difficult to decide how I start this piece. Which horrible angle shall I include or begin with?

As a teacher for many years, I have had and seen oh so many young men and women go into the military either during (ROTC) or after high school. Many of them do this for wonderful reasons: to serve, to get their educations funded, to travel, all types of reasons, I assume. My own father enlisted into the Army because he felt the necessity to fight the fascist takeover of Europe, and possibly the World.

In this modern era, countries must consider defense above war at every moment. All countries need to be able to defend themselves, but no countries should support or encourage war. How is that something that even needs to be explained?

Bringing in an education anecdote, in 2005, there was a huge and violent upsurge of fighting at the school I worked: it was the year that a fairly large number of students had petitioned to have an LGBT Student Support Club as part of the school activities. An undercurrent of animosity grew out of this, and a group of boys who wanted to fight banded together. There were several fights with injuries around the school that year, all stemming from this conflict, with the LGBT Boys getting attacked. Thankfully, a good number of them defended themselves effectively! (YOU GO BOY!!) Nevertheless, this type of aggression arising out of idiotic prejudice was a horrific mess spurred from a surge of masculine homophobic aggression.

Being a part of a nation that encourages offensive (as in, on the offense) fighting is a parallel to every negative toxic masculine trope imaginable. The current “secretary of war,” Mr. Hagseth, has stated that he wants his department defined by lethality, not neutrality. IS HE COGNITIVELY IMPAIRED or PSYCHOLOGICALLY DEMENTED? Yes. and Hell Yes.

How much more backwards can we go? Many American boys and men had finally become contented with being normal, helpful, tolerant, even kind people, rather than imitators of Rambo or Atilla the Hun, it appeared to me. Our new world should be focused more on tech security and/or financial security. When was the last time anyone attacked this country? We are fricking isolated by oceans on every side. Plus, we already have the largest , strongest, and most expensive military by FAR than any other country. Take a look at the percentage of tax revenue goes directly to the military. Why do you think we can never have a Speed Rail, or well-functioning roads?

Just how…how, will they make the Navy Seals or the Marines more lethal? Does the prezzident understand military training? He was never in the military; he only learned how shine his shoe buckles at a cushy military school that he was sent to as punishment for his misbehaviors. Let’s never forget that he was a draft dodger. Ol’ bone spurs.

When the the leaders of China, Russia, and India met last week (unbeknownst to Cankles MacTaco), they were most likely uniting as a preparation against this psychotic government. Who can blame them? Unsteady, uninformed, and unhinged leadership in the US is enough to make all the other countries join forces.

When my dad was in the Army fighting Hitler, he knew his enemy. Were he recruited or enlisting today, who would be his enemy? The entire rest of the world? I guess the new forces under the department of war better start shining those belt buckles and get ready to start some street brawls, in honor of lethality.
